Expenses is an app for tracking personal spending, sharing expenses and keeping up with credit card instalments and investments. This policy explains what data we store, what we use it for and what choices you have about it.

Who is responsible for your data

Expenses is an independently developed app. For any question about your data you can write to [email protected].

What data we collect

  • Account data: first name, last name and email address. Your password is stored encrypted, never in plain text.
  • The financial data you enter: expenses, income, categories, cards, instalments and investments. This is the data the app runs on.
  • Shared space data: if you invite someone to a space, that person can see the entries recorded in that space.
  • Queries to the AI assistant, if you choose to use it: your question and the data needed to answer it.
  • Purchase alerts, if you turn on automatic detection in the Android app: the text of Mercado Pago and Banco Galicia notifications, and of notifications from your email apps that mention those banks and include an amount. The rest of your notifications never leave your phone.

We do not access your location, your contacts or your camera, and we do not browse your photo gallery: if you report a problem from the app, the only image uploaded is the screenshot you choose. We do not ask for data that is not needed to keep your accounts.

What we use your data for

  • To show you your expenses, income and balances, and to calculate totals, instalments and savings rates.
  • To keep you signed in.
  • For the assistant: when you ask it a question, your query and the financial data needed to answer it are sent to Google Gemini, the AI provider we use. Conversations are saved in your account so you can pick them up again, until you delete them.
  • For automatic detection: we take the merchant, the amount and the date from the alert text and suggest it to you as an expense. Nothing is added unless you accept it. If the alert is not an expense, it is discarded without being stored.

Who we share your data with

We do not sell your data and we do not share it for advertising purposes. We do not use third-party analytics or tracking tools.

The only third parties that process data on our behalf are:

  • Google Gemini, only for the queries you send to the assistant, if you choose to use it.
  • The infrastructure provider where our server and database run.

Where your data is stored

Your data is stored in our own database, on a server we administer ourselves. We do not use third-party services to store your financial information.

How long we keep it

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you ask us to close it, we delete your personal and financial data from our systems.

Detected alerts that are expenses are kept in your account, including the ones you dismissed, so the same one is never suggested twice. They are deleted along with your account. You can stop sending them at any time from the app, or by removing Expense’s notification access in your Android settings.

Your rights: access, correction and deletion

You can ask us at any time for a copy of your data, for incorrect information to be corrected, or for your account and all your data to be deleted. For now this is handled by writing to [email protected].

Security

Passwords are stored encrypted and communication between the app and our servers travels encrypted over HTTPS. No system is infallible, but we take reasonable measures to protect your information.

Children

Expenses is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy in any significant way, we will say so on this same page with a new update date.
